Once upon a time, in a sunny beach town, a young girl named Alex was playing by the shore. She was building a magnificent sand castle, and she was enjoying the smell of the salt water mixed with the cries of seagulls. Alex usually spends her days by the shore, playing and making friends. You see, she had a heart as big as the ocean and a spirit filled with endless compassion for others.
On a glorious afternoon, as the soft waves whispered secrets to the shore and the golden sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, Alex was on her way to buy a delightful scoop of ice cream. In her pocket, a handful of coins rattled. She smelled the pleasant scent of cotton candy from the nearby boardwalk.
As Alex strolled along the beach, her mind wandered to the stories her parents often shared about the parables that Jesus spoke in the Bible. These stories had always left a deep impact on young Alex’s heart. However, that day something unfamiliar caught Alex’s attention. Near the lifeguard tower, beneath the welcoming shade of an old tree, sat a young girl named Sam. Sam looked worried. She wasn’t able to get back onto her nearby wheelchair, and her leg was bandaged. It was clear that she was in some kind of trouble.
While many of the people kept walking past her without a second look, young Alex felt a calling to be different. She wanted to show Sam kindness. With a beautiful and loving smile, Alex spoke with Sam gently and asked, “Hi! Do you need some help?” Sam was surprised but also relieved. She introduced herself and shared the story of how she had an accident while trying to enjoy the day at the beach. She sounded frustrated and sad at the same time. She explained how she was waiting for her mom to come back from the parking lot.
Alex’s heart was filled with compassion, and she remembered the parable of the good Samaritan in the Bible and how the good Samaritan offered all he could to take care of the wounded traveler. Alex smiled courageously, and without hesitation she carefully helped Sam back into her wheelchair. With determination, she began to push Sam’s wheelchair along the sandy path towards the nearest access ramp.
As they moved forward, Alex shared about her day and its adventures, and she also shared the story of the good Samaritan. Finally, after a patient and heartfelt journey, they reached a spot where they could see Sam’s mom walking towards them. Sam’s eyes were filled with gratitude as she looked at Alex. With a soft smile, she whispered, “Thank you for being my good Samaritan, Alex.”
In the days that followed, Alex often thought of her newfound friend, Sam. They would meet at the beach, sharing ice cream, watching the waves, and making new memories together. Their friendship deepened, and both learned important lessons about compassion, friendship, and the remarkable power of kindness.
And so, little one, as you close your eyes and imagine yourself on that sandy beach, think about Alex and her heart which is full of compassion. Remember that, just like Alex and Sam, you, too, can make the world a better place by showing kindness to others, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Rest well, be well, and remember that the bonds of friendship can be as strong as the waves of the ocean.
